The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the petition to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as inadequate.
According to INEC, the petition failed to meet the requirements outlined in Section 69(a) of the Nigerian Constitution.
The petition, which was submitted by the constituents of Kogi Central Senatorial District, claimed to have gathered over 250,000 signatures from registered voters.
However, INEC maintained that the petitioners did not provide complete contact details, including exact addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses of their representatives, as required by the commission’s regulations.
This development comes after Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended from the Senate on March 6, 2025, over allegations of “gross misconduct” following a dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Akpoti-Uduaghan had also accused Akpabio of $3xual hara$$ment, which he denied.
Meanwhile, INEC has assured that it will follow due process in handling the petition and will explore other means to notify the petitioners of the situation.
The commission reiterated that the recall of a legislator is the prerogative of registered voters within the constituency.
