Ministry Advocates Implementation of Land Rights For Women

The Federal Ministry of Environment has solicited the implementation of lands rights for women in the country.

The Director, Department of Drought and Desertification, Mrs Mable Emmanuel solicited this in Abuja at the Commemoration of the 2023 World Desertification and Drought Day with the Theme “Her Land Her Right: Advancing Gender Equality and Land Restoration Goals”.

Mrs Emmanuel who represented the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Environment, Mallam Ibrahim Yusuf, urged Stakeholders in the environmental sector to ensure that women have equal rights in access to land in law and in practice.

She cautioned traditional leaders, private corporations, investors, multilateral organizations, and family members against any form of discrimination against women in their rights to access, use, inherit, control, or own land especially with the growing impact of climate change and frequency of natural disasters.

The Permanent Secretary Federal Capital Territory, Mr Adesola Olusade said the territory was making deliberate efforts to plant trees and to ensure an environment where the temperature could be regulated.

Mr Olushola said the FCT would reinvigorate the compliance with regulation governing the territory to ensure concerted effort to make Abuja a safe and green city.

According, to him, part of the regulations governing the development of assets in FCT also specified the number of trees that should be planted by every house.

Also, Director Parks and Recreation in the FCT, Mr Isaiah Ukpanah said the Department had planted over 250 trees to ensure that the environment was green and friendly.

The event also featured the planting of trees in some parks and recreation centres in the FCT.
