The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has impounded three truckloads of vandalised telecommunications tower in Chibok local government area, Borno State.
The State Commandant, Farouq Boyi, who disclosed this in Maiduguri said the suspected vandals sneaked into Shiki village in Chibok local government and dismantled the mast of defunct NITEL when personnel of the Corps stormed the area after an intelligence report.
According to him, six suspects including drivers of the trucks were arrested while the principal suspect is at large.
The Commandant alleged that highly placed persons were involved in acts of vandalism but assured that any person no matter how highly placed engaged in the crime would be arrested and prosecuted.
The Command also paraded 27 other suspects for committing various offences including gangsterism, vandalism of armoured cables and fraud.
Farouq Boyi explained that the command arrested a syndicate who defrauded some vulnerable people including IDPs in the state to the tune of over N12 million; claiming to provide them with food vouchers.
He alerted members of the public to be wary of such fraudsters and report their activities to the nearest security outfit.
Two of the suspects, Mohammed Umar and Abdullahi Ibrahim denied the allegations, claiming that they were only arrested during mass raid by security agencies.
