Police Foil Attack On Ekiti Assembly Complex

The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Ekiti State Police Command had neutralized effort by some criminals from attacking and setting the Ekiti State House of Assembly complex ablaze.

The criminals, on November 18, 2022, scaled the fence and spray a section of the complex with petrol and put on fire it.

It was gathered that the election of the lawmaker representing Ikole constituency 1, Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan, as the new Speaker, to replace the late Funminiyi Afuye, who died on October 19,2022 thrown the Assembly into unwanted crisis.

It is, however, obvious that the coordinated attack on the assembly complex is connected to crisis lingering among the lawmakers.

Notwithstanding, in the poll conducted during a plenary of the assembly, Aribisogan got 15 votes to win the lawmaker representing Emure constituency, Hon Olubunmi Adelugba, who scratched 10 out of the election.

Some of the lawmakers and major stakeholders of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state were said to have threw their weight behind Adelugba as the Speaker.

The State Commissioner of Police Mr. Moronkeji Adesina, reacted promptly and directed security operatives to temporarily shut down the assembly to restore normalcy.
