Senator Ajibola Bashir, representing Osun Central Senatorial District has donated a borehole to the NYSC Osun State Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede and also gifted the 2022 Batch C Stream 1 Course Participants one million naira to enhance their welfare on Camp.
Senator Bashir made the donation when he paid a visit to the ongoing Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Monday.
Addressing the Corps Members, Bashir highlighted resilience and commitment as the basic requirements for success in life while using his life story to buttress this point and explaining that the strength of every man is in their ability to overcome challenges as there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
According to him, the Members must not loose hope as their strength lies in their ability to overcome challenges that comes their way even as the NYSC is training and imbuing in them the needed resilience and attitude for such a feat.
He further informed Corps Members that the NYSC is a leadership training body which teaches graduate youths mobilised for service sense of discipline, resilience, sense of communal living and tolerance.
He stated that Nigeria is one of the 11th largest countries with a population of over 11 million people with heterogeneous nationality that should work toward ensuring unity in diversity of the country shunning all forms of religious and ethnic bigotry.
He admonished the Members to see the unity and greatness of Nigeria as primary motive to drive its people to success.
“As young people, we are in an era where survival is challenging according to the global news and fall in the ‘ almighty’ pounds Sterling, 2020 COVID-19 pandemic and the Post-Cold War in Ukraine and Russia that has affected global existence.
” We must therefore be resilient and committed to see that we all survive. See yourselves as cultural ambassadors of Nigeria wherever you are posted to and be committed to the nation’s unity”, he said.
He further explained that the current situation of the country is very gloomy with reference to the 2021/2022 budget of Nigeria that is being run on deficit and that of 2023 which is likely to run on deficit excess of ten million Naira indicating that there will not be enough money for significant developments needed for the expansion of the public service. He however admonished Corps Members to think out of the box and develop themselves as entrepreneurs, developers and content creators by bringing ideas to help improve the situation and not solely depend on paid employment .
While speaking on this, he advised Corps Members to decide what they are passionate about and discover themselves to create value for success for the progress of the country.
He encouraged them as elites to take interest in politics by engaging in and participating in the electoral process and to scrutinise politicians holistically looking at their personality, service history and committment to national integration and development. He charged them to disallow religious, ethnic or personality attacks.
He also spoke on the security of life and property in the society and explained that security is not only limited to the government but that everyone should scrutinise and profile people and not mind their business to their detriment. He enjoined the Corps Members to be watchers of society in terms of security as it is everyone’s responsibility.
As cultural ambassadors of Nigeria, he admonished that they should be the best irrespective of areas of primary assignments and that they should ensure that their skills and abilities serve as assets to the benefit of the country.
In her brief, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Abdulwahab appreciated the Senator for deeming it fit to visit the 2022 Batch C Stream 1 Corps Members and for his unalloyed support for the Scheme in the State.
She informed the visitors of the Scheme’s committment to the welfare of Corps Members deployed to the State and the various projects embarked upon since she took over the mantle of leadership in June, 2022. She appreciated the Senator for his contribution towards the success of the Scheme’s Hall of Fame programme which held recently and thanked him for living up to his promise of donating a borehole to augment water supply in Camp.
She further apprised Senator Bashir and his entourage of the level of discipline and readiness to serve the nation displayed by the 2022 Batch C Stream 1 Corps Members, describing them as a crop of disciplined and highly intellectual members.
