Afimag.com –

No fewer than 10 persons including a Nigeria army major have been killed in a fresh attack on some communities in Niger State by rampaging bandits.

Six local vigilante members in the affected communities were killed by the crooks who also abducted 60 villagers.

The attack which recorded the killing of a Major and three other soldiers at Igu village on the Sarkin Pawa-Kaduna Road, in Munya Local Government Area of Niger State, took place at the late hours of March 16,2023.

The affected vigilante members were part of the joint security operatives patrolling the area that had staved off the gunmen during a fierce gun battle in the same area, the previous day.

It was learned that the security forces were on their way to recover the corpses of the slain vigilante members when the crooks from the forest opened fire on them.

Africa Investigative Magazine gathered that the bandits were at the forest to bury some of their members killed during an intense battle with Military on March 14.

Sources said that the gunmen were over 70 in their numbers, the reason it wasn’t difficult to humble the few security officers going to evacuate the dead bodies of their colleagues.

The communities invaded were Beni in Munya LGA and Adunu, Paikoro Local government Area of the state where one Salihu Ahmed was killed and 20 persons abducted.

In Adunu community, a medical practitioner, Joshua Bitrus was killed as he wanted to escape from the terrible condition into the bush on hearing gunshots.

A retired police officer, Moses Tanko, including over 40 others were abducted from the community.

The few people who could cough out between N10,000 to 20,000 to pay as ransom to the bandits were released while others were taken away.
