19 African Migrants Killed In Tunisia’s Boat Mishap

The Boat mishap along Tunisia coast has claimed nineteen migrants from sub-Saharan Africa crossing the Mediterranean sea to Italy.
The incident was disclosed by an official at the Forum for Social and Economic Rights, Romadan ben Omar, on March 26, 2023, on Al Jazeera Television Channels, monitored by Africa Investigative Magazine.
He noted that five migrant boats heading toward Italy have fallen into the sea recently off the southern city of Sfax, where nine persons were reported dead with over 60 persons missing.
Meanwhile, Tunisian shore patrol team rescued five people from the boat off the coast of Mahdia with regards to a journey that commenced from Sfax beaches.

The coast guard had also announced the interception of over 70 boats on their way to Italy in past four days and put behind bars over 3,500 migrants from sub-Saharan African countries.
It was gathered that the coast near Sfax is the departure centre for people running away from bad governance in Africa to Europe and other continents.
The United Nation has said that more than 12,000 migrants that arrived Italy this year came from Tunisia, compared to 1,300 in the same period of 2022 from other locations.
Before now, Libya has been their central point from joining the country. In the same development, FTDES statistics, said Tunisia’s coast guard deterred more than 14,000 migrants from setting off in boats during the first three months of this year, compared with 2,900 during the same period last year.
According to Italian coast guard in March, it about 750 migrants in two operations off the southern Italian coast were rescued.
