2023 Elections: INEC To Prosecute 774 Electoral Offenders

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is set to prosecute 774 persons arrested for various electoral offences during the 2023 general elections.

The INEC Chairman, Professor Yakubu Mahmoud disclosed this in Abuja at the Monthly review forum on Human Rights and the 2023 elections.

Professor Yakubu explained that the Inspector General of Police recently forwarded 215 case files on electoral crimes to the commission for Prosecution of the perpetrators.

Represented by the Deputy Director Prosecution of the commission, Mr. Nasara Haruna Auta, the INEC Chairman said the commission was partnering the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, for Probono legal services for the prosecution of electoral offenders during the 2023 general election.

The Commandant General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) Ahmed Abubakar Audi, represented by the Commandant Election Monitoring Unit of NSCDC, Fatima-Binta Ilesanmi, reiterated that the Corps will continue to be professional and committed in the discharge of their mandates.

The Project Director MOVE who represented the Executive Secretary National Human Rights Commission, NHRC Chief Tony Ojukwu, said the monthly review forum was to provide the public with data about the 2023 elections.
