The Delta State Police Command says it has intensified its crackdown on criminals across the state, leading to the arrest of 80 suspects and the recovery of 31 firearms, stolen vehicles, and other exhibits in the month of August 2025.

Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda S. Olufemi, disclosed this during a press briefing in Asaba on Wednesday, where he presented the command’s scorecard for the month under review.

He said the command, acting on the mandate of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, has sustained its efforts to make Delta State unsafe for criminals.

“Deltans can attest to the fact that in recent times, the state has become very hot for criminals. I assure residents that under my watch, the command will not relent in pursuing criminal elements, ensuring that they are arrested and brought to justice,” the CP said.

The operatives arrested several armed robbery suspects across Asaba, Ogwashi-Uku, Ughelli, and Uvwie, recovering pump-action rifles, Beretta pistols, double-barrel guns, cartridges, and stolen vehicles including a Lexus RX350, Mercedes Benz GLK, and other cars snatched at gunpoint.

An ex-convict released on August 6 was re-arrested on August 11 for allegedly stealing a motorcycle, just five days after leaving prison.

Also, Police in Ughelli arrested a 52-year-old woman, Egbule Isioma, allegedly described as a major dealer in illicit drugs in the area. Raids on her store and residence led to the recovery of 355 bottles of codeine, tramadol capsules, cannabis, and other controlled substances.

A syndicate of fraudsters and robbers operating in Delta and Edo states was dismantled. Members allegedly defrauded victims of over ₦23.5 million, stole about 42 motorcycles, and carted away dozens of iPhones. Sixteen suspected stolen iPhones and two vehicles were recovered from them.

Police recovered over 50 laptops and phones, 11 stolen ladders, several motorcycles, and other valuables.

Achievements summary in August included recovery of 31 firearms, 86 rounds of live ammunition and cartridges, 50 laptops and mobile phones and apprehension of 80 suspects.

The Police Commissioner, however, urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to the nearest police station or call the command’s control room numbers: 08036684974, 08114895600, and 08025666914.

He assured Deltans of the command’s commitment to sustaining the current momentum in crime-fighting to make the state safer for all.
