Tension is rising in the Lucas Extension area of Abraka, in Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State, following the abduction of three boys by suspected on Wednesday 23 April, 2025.
The incident, which occurred in broad daylight, has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over the growing insecurity in the region.
The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed at the time of filing this report. The development, however, has intensified criticism of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Csp. Fabian Ayameh, in Abraka, with community leaders and residents accusing him of inefficiency and negligence.
In a strong statement, the Special Assistant to the Delta State Government, Hon. Enamuotor John, disclosed that the DPO has been allegedly frequenting the bush in recent times, purportedly in search of criminals, yet without any visible results.
He further lamented that CSP. Fabian Ayameh has served in the area for five years without yielding any significant improvement in security.
“The DPO needs to be removed with immediate effect,” Hon. Enamuotor declared. “The safety of our children and residents is at stake. We also demand a thorough investigation into the activities of community stakeholders who may be complicit.”
A Resident who spoke with newsmen on anonymity said the “rate at which people are being kidnapped in Abraka is high.” He called on the Delta State Police Command to rescue the abducted boys and restore public confidence in the security apparatus.
When contacted, the State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP. Edafe Bright did not respond to his phone calls for comment.
