Armed bandits have carried out separate deadly attacks on two communities in Sabon-Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, leaving several residents dead, many others injured, and an unspecified number abducted.
According to SaharaReporters, residents of Gatawa community reported that the attackers stormed the area late Saturday night in large numbers, shooting indiscriminately and causing widespread panic as villagers fled into surrounding bushes for safety.
Local sources confirmed that multiple fatalities were recorded, though official casualty figures have not yet been released by authorities.
In a related incident earlier on Saturday, bandits struck Kiba Ruwa community, also in Sabon-Birni LGA, where worshippers had gathered for the Subh (dawn) prayer.
According to eyewitnesses who spoke with Egbe Mekun Parrots, the assailants invaded the mosque at daybreak and opened fire on congregants.
Two people, including the imam leading the prayer, were killed on the spot. Several worshippers were abducted during the attack, but the exact number remains unclear as residents continue to account for missing persons.
The twin attacks add to the persistent wave of violent incidents plaguing rural communities across Sokoto State, raising renewed concerns about the worsening security situation despite ongoing military operations in the region.
Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement regarding both attacks.
