Chatham House: Obi Vows To Eliminate Inefficiency In Governance

The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Gregory Obi, has said that he would flush out inefficiency in governance if elected the President of Nigeria in the February 25 elections.

Obi disclosed this during his engagement in Chatham House, the British International Think-tank and Policy Institute on Monday, January 16, 2023, which was monitored by Africa Investigative Magazine.

The former Anambra State governor stated that with him and Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed at the helm of Nigerian socio-economic system, inefficiency and corruption will be something of the past.

He said, “There will be no sacred cow. Our objective is to dismantle these structures of criminality and enthrone competence, character, and capability so that talents and ideas can flourish.”

Responding to a question on how manage Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Obi noted that the Biafra war ended 53 years ago and that he was sure the agitators need nothing but justice.

“We are going to look into the issue of justice and marginalization which some of them are hinging their grievances. We are going to apply the carrot and stick in dealing with the agitators. But in the end, there can only be one government and we will be in charge.

When asked by the former British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Arkwright, on how to attract investors to Nigeria, Obi said he would attract investors on bee and honey through creation of enabling environment with corrupt free policies.

On security, he said: “Our military once secured Africa and they should secure Nigeria and we will provide the needed leadership and political will to put things in right places.

On the independence of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Labour Party Candidate stated that the apex bank was facing the outcome of a wrong combined effort, necessarily not competence.

While assuring that his administration will put square pegs in square holes, Obi said that the on-going fiscal rascality in the system will be pulled apart as discipline would be injected into the system, adding that Nigeria needs a person of total quality character to reclaim her lost glory.
