Columnist: ABUJA AS FCT, OVERTAKE IS ALLOWED
Columnist: MOMENT OF TRUTH with Richard. ABUJA AS FCT: OVERTAKE IS ALLOWED
By Richard Ugbeh –
February 03, will forever remain indelible in the History of this great Nation, Nigeria. Many Nigerians have forgotten that it was on the said date the former Head of State, Gen. Muritala Muhammed announced to the Supreme Military Council meeting, ABUJA as the new federal capital.
Though on assumption of office, he made it clear that no business as usual, therefore, certain changes must occur which he carried out without qualms.
Amongst the changes that brought Abuja as the FCT with immediate effect. ABUJA Happy birthday @ 47 (belated) and many more fruitful development ahead. Congratulations!
Yes, that’s a birthday wish for our dear FCT. Let’s go back to early stages of Abuja. After the pronouncement, it wasn’t easy for the government then to commence development as there was numerous issues confronting the Nation which was the reasons they took over power.
First thing first, Abuja issue was kept in view while tackling the core areas that affects ordinary man in the streets. Abuja, “Home for All” was the initial slogan. 1976, I remember it all as if it was yesterday when Gen. Mamam Vatsa was appointed as the Pioneer minister. He was equally a no-nonsense man who wants things done without hesitation.
Today, in history of Nigeria, some residence in Abuja and private individuals that built wonders on Earth buildings might not even know what February 03, represents.
Over take is allowed, hence, Abuja is now in the first position. A true affirmation of nothing is Permanent. One may be this and that today, tomorrow you become ex this & that, that’s the summary of life.
Lagos has played it’s part when it was capital, now, Abuja has taken over, doing well too. No matter the shaking, Abuja stands gidigba like Aso rock.
Congratulations once again and happy anniversary (belated) which many of us never commemorated.
