The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, today presented letters of commendation to sixteen outstanding officers of the command in recognition of their exceptional performance and unwavering dedication to duty.
The event, held at the command headquarters in Asaba, took many senior officers by surprise as CP Abaniwonda personally handed over the certificates, acknowledging the officers’ remarkable efforts in enhancing security across the state.
Topping the list of honorees was ASP Julius Robinson, Commander of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), who was deployed alongside his team to Ughelli in April 2024, with a mission to suppress rampant criminal activity in Ughelli, Warri, Sapele, Oghara, and other flashpoints in the state.
According to a statement by SP Edafe Bright, the Police Public Relations Officer
Delta State Command, Asaba, CP Abaniwonda lauded ASP Robinson and his team for restoring calm to these troubled areas, attributing significant breakthroughs to their strategic operations.
Over the past year, CP-SAT recorded major achievements, including recovery of 24 AK-47 rifles, four K2/G3 rifles, and 21 pump action guns.
Others were 15 suspected stolen vehicles, 32 additional pump action guns and seizure of 560 rounds of ammunition and cartridges.
“This team has demonstrated exceptional courage, professionalism, and resilience in the face of persistent threats,” said CP Abaniwonda. “Their actions have not only secured communities but have also boosted public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.”
Among other CP-SAT operatives commended were Inspector Joel Osunniran, Inspector Ofumana Samson, Inspector Paul Mamman, Corporal Layefa God’sgrace, and Woman Police Constable Isanmi Naomi.
Also honored was the widely celebrated Woman Corporal Mercy Uche Nwokolo, who has become a local icon for her dedication as a traffic officer in Warri. Her commendation follows a public outpouring of appreciation on her birthday, April 16, 2025, when traders and commuters at Robert Junction surprised her with a celebration in recognition of her cheerful and tireless service.
CP Abaniwonda described W/CPL Nwokolo as “a shining example of community policing at its best,” adding that her positive image has brought pride to the Delta State Command and the entire Nigeria Police Force.
In his remarks, ASP Julius Robinson expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for providing the tools needed to fight crime effectively. He also acknowledged the support of the CP, area commanders, divisional police officers, and fellow personnel.
“We understand that the reward for hard work is more work,” Robinson said. “And we are ready to do even more.”
