The Nigeria Police Force has announced that Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Benjamin Okolo, has officially assumed duty as the Supervisory Officer in charge of all police personnel deployed for the November 8, 2025, Anambra State Governorship Election.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, DIG Okolo assumed the supervisory role on November 6, 2025, following his earlier representation of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) at key pre-election engagements in the state.
DIG Okolo, alongside the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Yakubu Kwazhi, had earlier represented the IGP during the signing of the Peace Accord by political candidates and at other stakeholder meetings.
As the Supervisory Officer, DIG Okolo is tasked with overseeing the operational framework, coordinating field deployments, and ensuring strict compliance with the Force’s Rules of Engagement throughout the election period.
The statement noted that the deployment aligns with the strategic security measures approved by the Inspector General of Police to guarantee a peaceful, credible, and professionally managed electoral process across Anambra State.
“The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding the electoral process, protecting the rights of citizens, and ensuring that all political actors conduct themselves in accordance with the law,” the statement read.
The Force also appealed to residents of Anambra State to remain law-abiding and to cooperate fully with police officers and other security personnel deployed for election duties.
Assisting DIG Okolo in the coordination of election security operations are AIG Akoh Benedict Gabriel; the Commissioner of Police for the Anambra Governorship Election, CP Abayomi Shogunle, as well as other Commissioners of Police assigned to the 21 Local Government Areas of the state and other senior strategic officers.
