Domestic Violence: Minister Seeks Redress Over Death Of 11-Year Old Maid
The Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen has expressed dismay over to the death of an 11-year-old housemaid in Plateau State.
The maid whose name was given as Margaret died as a result of domestic violence championed by her guardian, Ms. Edozie Nwachukwu, in Vom, Jos South Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement obtained by Africa Investigative Magazine, the domestic staff ran to her neighbour who quickly took her to the hospital after Nwachukwu allegedly poured hot water on her buttocks.

The maid was later, transferred to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), where she gave up on ghosts due to the loss of blood.
The Minister, however, condemned the act, warning that such atrocities committed by guardians against domestic staff must not be tolerated.

“You cannot bring forth children that you cannot cater for? Every Nigerian Child under the Act (CRA, 2003 has rights which when violated must be visited with prosecution under the Act in the Court of Law.
“We cannot continue to condone such unruly behaviors that run contrary to the Laws of the land. Every child deserves a right to life, to education; to quality life and nothing short of this will be tolerated as we work towards ending violence against every citizen particularly Women and Girls.” She said
