Explosion Damages Nigerian Army Storage Facility in Ogun

An early morning explosion on Thursday, August 14, 2025, damaged a storage building at the Nigerian Army’s Ilese Barracks in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

Army spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, confirmed the incident in a statement, describing it as “minor” and noting that no casualties were recorded.

According to Anele, the blast occurred within a storage facility belonging to the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter Improvised Explosive Device Squadron, sparking a limited fire outbreak.

Swift intervention by troops from the 12 Field Engineer Regiment, in collaboration with the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service, ensured the blaze was quickly contained.

“The structural damage was confined to the affected building and some stored materials. A detailed assessment is underway to determine the extent of material loss,” Anele stated.

The Nigerian Army assured residents of Ilese and surrounding communities of their safety and urged them to go about their normal activities. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion and prevent future occurrences.
