Gunmen Kill 4 Soldiers, Injure Others In Niger’s Border With Nigeria

Gunmen suspected be terrorists have killed four of Nigerien soldiers, injuring two others in an attack near the border with Nigeria.
The Niger Republic television who announced this yesterday, said the soldiers died during a dawn raid by the suspected terrorists, at Bassira, a border village, in the Maradi area.
“Armed men came in large numbers riding about 100 motorbikes and attacked the gendarme,” it stated.

Africa Investigative Magazine gathered that the attack left four dead and two wounded among Niger’s Defence and Security Forces (FDS).
After engaging the terrorists in a gun battle for over an hour, the FDS pushed back the attackers who carried off their dead and wounded but abandoned three motorbikes, communications equipment and ammunition.
“It’s an unprecedented attack for the area,” the elected official said, where gunmen dubbed “bandits” often kill, loot and terrorize the population.
“We are no longer dealing with cattle rustlers…this cowardly and barbaric attack cannot go unpunished,” Maradi regional governor Issoufou Mamane, said after he had visited the scene of the raid.
According AFP, the region accommodates over 46,000 Nigerian refugees who have fled the violence by armed gangs ravaging the border for years.
