The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered five illegal crude oil dumps in the Jahi/Katampe area of Abuja, leading to the arrest of seven suspects involved in the illicit operation.
In a statement released on Thursday by the NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, the agency revealed that its Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS) made the discovery during a recent operation.
The squad also impounded several vehicles, including a white truck with three compartments fully loaded with 45,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and an unverifiable waybill.
Other seized vehicles include four Mercedes-Benz short peddler trucks and several additional automobiles linked to the illegal operation.
Equipment recovered from the site included pumping machines, hoses of various sizes, a Mikano generator, and approximately 23 surface metallic tanks—some containing large quantities of suspected AGO. A container shelter used in the operation was also confiscated.
The NSCDC emphasized that the operation reflects its commitment to combating crude oil theft and other forms of economic sabotage nationwide. The suspects will be prosecuted to deter similar criminal activities.
