Oborevwori Reassures Oil Firms of Secure Operational Environment in Delta

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing a secure and conducive environment for oil and gas companies operating in the state.

Governor Oborevwori disclosed this on Thursday when he played host of the top management team of Renaissance Africa Energy Company — the new owners of Shell’s stake in the NNPC/SPDC/TOTAL/AGIP Joint Venture at Government House, Asaba.

The Governor emphasized the critical role of crude oil in Nigeria’s economy and called for robust, sustainable partnerships between oil firms and their host communities. He urged companies to engage communities meaningfully to foster trust and cooperation.

Oborevwori recalled his experience with Shell during his time as the Osubi Community Chairman, stating that he preferred dialogue to confrontation and believed in building strong relationships between companies and communities.

“I want to assure you that your operations are safe here. Delta State remains one of the most peaceful states in the South-South region. Your investment is well protected,” he said. “Our oil facilities have remained secure since I assumed office, and Delta is currently the highest oil-producing state in the country.”

He pledged full government support for the company, stating that as the company prospers, the state also benefits through increased tax revenues.

In his remarks, Chairman of Renaissance Africa Energy Company, Dr. Layi Fatoma, thanked the Governor for his support and hospitality, noting the importance of introducing the company’s leadership formally to the state government.

The company’s MD/CEO, Engr. Tony Attah, shared their vision to enhance energy security in Nigeria, beginning from the Niger Delta, with plans to expand across Africa. He expressed confidence in the government’s support, especially with the company being fully Nigerian-owned.

“We align with the Delta State Government’s MORE Agenda. As indigenes, we believe we will receive even greater support than Shell did. We are committed to working closely with your administration,” Attah said.
