Former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili has praised Governor Siminilayi Fubara for thwarting Minister Nyesom Wike’s alleged attempt to dominate the state’s treasury and turn Rivers into his “private estate”.
Odili stated this when he played host of Gov. Siminilayi Fubara at a Christmas Ballad he organized in honor of the Rivers State Governor and his family.
Odili commended Fubara’s courage and leadership in confronting Wike’s “ferocious” and “unnecessary” political attacks.
He noted that Fubara’s actions have steadied governance, emancipated Rivers people, and restored happiness among civil servants and citizens.
According to him, “Governor Fubara confronted the challenge, prevented the quest by one man to capture the State as a private estate, emancipated Rivers people, steadied governance and made civil servants and Rivers people happier as it used to be until he left office in 2007.”
On his part, Fubara responded by attributing his success to divine intervention, stating that God gave him a new perspective on leadership during the crisis.
He expressed gratitude for the support of Rivers people, saying it strengthened his resolve to stand up for them, assuring residents of a brighter future, vowing to continue doing what is right and uplift the state’s image.
He also acknowledged the true leaders and well-meaning Rivers people who stood by him despite pressure to surrender to tyranny and oppression.
“Not just because I want to accept it, I get stronger in this course every day when I look at the support I am getting from the true Rivers people.
“So, it is not me being strong. My strength is drawn from everyone of you that is here. You gave me the encouragement; you do the work for me; you make the calls for me. So, why won’t I stand up for you.
“But we also believe strongly that the ultimate game changer, the ultimate liberator, and the ultimate fighter still remains God Almighty. And because we have Him on our side, victory is assured,” he said.
