PDP Lawmakers Demand Resignation Of Party’s National Chairman
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), House of Representatives Members have demanded the resignation of the party’s acting National Chairman, Alhaji Umar Damagum.
The lawmakers made the demand during a news conference held at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, on April 08, 2024.
The coalition of PDP federal lawmakers accused Alhaji Damagun is trying to hand over the Party’s structure to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
According the lawmakers, “the move to use serving APC Members in Rivers State and 10 other states to lead our party caretaker at state, LGA and ward level is the highest act of political provocation and impunity that we are going to fight with everything in us. PDP cant be handed over the APC.”
The Leader of the group, Mr. Ikenga Ugochinyere, threatened that if the request of the group is not granted, the 60 Lawmakers under the group have no option but to form alliance with other party.
He said, “Where these demands are not met, we the Opposition lawmakers coalition from PDP in the National Assembly will be left with no other options but suspend participating in the party activities and seek new political relationship where decisions in that party will not be taken in the Secretariat of another political party.”
The group also alleged that plans are ongoing to tamper with the original list of care takers in Rivers State and other ten States.
They added that since the PDP political crisis in Rivers State erupted, the acting PDP National Chairman has not made any effort to address it.
The group leader further explained that Nigerians are suffering because the PDP have not been able to play the role of opposition party under the leadership of Alhaji Umar Damagum.
He said, “there is an attempt to kill PDP and make it go into extinction.”
