Peaceful Barricade: SEEPCO Fixes Jan 19 To Meet Hostcom, Ikwuobodo Over Troubling Subjects
Following the ongoing cold war between the Sterling Global Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO) and the host communities, a meeting has been scheduled for January 19, 2023, for both parties to see to their differences.
The meeting became paramount after concerned citizens of Ndokwa extraction barricaded the road and entrances to the company on December 28, 2022, for its failure to live up to expectations.
Concerned Youths of Ndokwa ethnic nationality around 6am blocked the road to Okpai, Okwuibome and a few other oil producing communities in Ndokwa East Local Government Area, Delta State over Sterling Global’s unwillingness to meet the request of the host communities.
The host communities have been agitating for good water supplies such as borehole or an alternative as oil exploration has contaminated their water ways including their environment.
Other demands were proper clean up of the environment polluted by oil spills, compensation for landlords and fulfillment of corporate social responsibility.
