Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have smashed a notorious kidnap syndicate in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area, rescuing a victim, arresting four suspects, and recovering arms, vehicles, and a sophisticated network jammer.
The breakthrough followed a distress call in the early hours of September 8, 2025, reporting the abduction of a young man at his residence in Ogwashi-Uku.
According to police sources, the kidnappers collected a ransom of ₦2 million from the victim’s family but still shot him in the leg for “not bringing enough money.”
Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, immediately deployed the Command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Squad, led by CSP Godwin Osadolor. The operatives stormed a bush in Ogwashi-Uku, where the victim was rescued despite his gunshot injuries.
Intelligence-led operations that followed led to the arrest of two prime suspects, Chukwuebuka Nka (25), of Nenwe, Enugu State, and Uche Okechukwu, of Amaifeke, Orlu LGA, Imo State, along Owerri Road in Ndemili North, Anambra State. The victim’s white Toyota Venza SUV was also recovered from them.
Further interrogations guided police to Agidiase quarters in Ogwashi-Uku, where another suspect, Somto Chukwuma (18), of Ihiala, Anambra State, was arrested.
He later led operatives to another hideout in Ogwashi-Uku, where police recovered the gang’s operational Toyota Matrix (Reg. No. RRT-331-AE) and a network jammer circuit device used to block communications during their operations.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation, police in Ekpan Division arrested two suspected armed robbers, Elvis Ebroghro (36) and Abiola Adegore (34), both residents of Ometan. Acting on intelligence, the suspects were picked up after threatening a community security guard who had challenged them while attempting to steal a vehicle battery.
A follow-up operation led to the arrest of Lucky Ebroghro, another gang member, and the recovery of a concealed AK-47 rifle linked to the syndicate.
CP Abaniwonda, while commending the professionalism and resilience of his men, vowed that criminal elements would find no safe haven in Delta State.
“The Command remains relentless in dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace and safety across our communities,” the CP assured.
The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
