Police Kill One As Protest Rocks South Africa Over Hiked Power Tarrif
South Africa Police have on August 01, 2022, clashed with the protesters, killing one man in the Thembisa area of the State.
The residents of the area were said to be protesting against the failure of President Cyril Ramaohosa to reduce the hiked electricity tarrif.
It was gathered that the residents who barricated the roads with burning tires set ablaze a building in Thembisa township east of the financial hub Johannesburg.

It was further gathered that during the administration of former president Thabo Mbeki, the citizens were informed to expect increase of electricity bill resulting from mounting discontent.
According to former president Thabo Mbeki, the hike in electricity tarrif was similar to the Arab Spring.
Mbeki has also alleged that President Cyril Ramaphosa failed to fulfill his campaign promises to eliminate widespread poverty, inequality, and unemployment which were on a daily rise.
Recall that one year ago, massive violence hit South Africa which could be compared to that of apartheid era of about three decades ago.
The violence which recorded large-scale rioting and looting left more than 400 South Africans dead.
Commenting on the Thembisa killing, the spokesperson of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), Lizzy Suping, admitted that the police have a registered case of a shooting.
“We have registered a case of shooting… by a member of the police, and our investigators are on the scene,” she said.
