Ninety outstanding students from Delta North Senatorial District have been awarded full scholarships to study at the Sports University of Nigeria, Idumuje-Ugboko, in a landmark investment in education and sports development.
The initiative, announced by the Senator representing Delta North, Sen. Ned Nwoko, will see ten students selected from each of the district’s nine Local Government Areas.
The beneficiaries will receive 100% tuition-free education for four years, alongside training in world-class sports facilities and access to modern infrastructure including 24-hour electricity, high-speed internet, safe campus accommodation, and state-of-the-art sporting complexes.
According to the Senator, the programme is aimed at nurturing “scholar-athletes” who will excel both academically and athletically, serving as ambassadors for Delta North and Nigeria.
“True development comes when we invest in the minds and talents of our young people. This is more than financial assistance; it is an investment in a generation that will combine academic excellence with athletic brilliance,” he said.
The Sports University of Nigeria is the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa. It offers fully accredited programmes in Mass Communication, Management & Social Sciences, Sports Science, Allied Health Sciences, Sciences, and Architecture.
Applicants for the scholarship must demonstrate strong academic performance and proven talent in at least one sport. The first cohort of awardees is expected to resume this academic session.
