Situation Reports On Ongoing March 18 Polls In Delta

The guber and state houses of assembly elections monitored by group of journalists in some local governments areas were calm and peaceful.
The election in some polling units such as Ighwre-Ovie Primary School, Oharisi Primary School and Ward 2/6 Unit 25 commenced at 7:45 a.m.
Other areas that election started earlier were Ward 1/5 Unit 11/12, Ward 1/5 Unit 45 amongst others, in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
An INEC official who spoke with newsmen on condition of anonymity at the Ughelli North office, said sensitive electoral materials were disbursed yesterday to ensure efficiency on the conduct of the election.
When asked of the whereabouts of the Electoral Officer in charge of the LGA, he said the E.O went to Unit 4, Orogun, the hometown of the APC guber candidate monitor the election.
Speaking with newsmen after casting his vote, Olorogun (Barr) Fred Majemite, who stated that what went wrong during the presidential election has been corrected, confirmed that electoral materials arrived on time and the process was commendable.
He implored the Independent National Electoral Commission to be transparent by ensuring that results from all polling units across the State are transmitted to the its server without alteration.
On his part, the All Progressives Congress (APC) guber candidate and Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege who cast his vote at 11:30 am amidst peaceful atmosphere, said he was confident on the electoral process.
The PDP guber candidate and speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Sheriff Oborovwere also cast his vote peacefully.
Meanwhile, the Labour Party Guber candidate, Ken Pela expressed disappointment over the conduct of the polls, alleging that it was a repeat of Febuary 25 elections.
Pela who spoke with newsmen shortly after casting his vote, said electoral materials were not distributed at the party’s strongholds.
However, reports from Ika South and North East, Ukwani, Ndokwa East and West and Warri South Local Government Areas said the election was without violence.
Meanwhile, in Evwreni in Ughelli North LGA, there were reported cases of violence which led to injuring of some corps members and destruction of three BVAS machines.
Africa Investigative Magazine gathered that violence erupted in polling units in Evwreni Community which escalated to other areas, preventing electorates from casting their votes. It was alleged that election took place only on two polling units.
In Amukpe, Sapele local government area, there was reported cases of violence which regenerated to attack on some persons.
