The United States Mission in Nigeria has reiterated that all Nigerian visa applicants are required to disclose their complete social media history for the past five years when filling out the DS-160 visa application form.
In a statement shared via its official X handle, the Mission emphasized that applicants must provide all usernames and handles they have used across any social media platforms within the specified period. Failure to do so, it warned, could jeopardize current and future travel plans to the United States.
“Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used from the last five years on the DS-160 visa application form,” the Embassy stated.
“Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before they sign and submit. Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas.”
The Mission underscored that incomplete or misleading submissions will not be overlooked. It urged Nigerians seeking U.S. visas to ensure strict compliance with the requirement to avoid disqualification.
This measure aligns with U.S. global visa vetting procedures, which were introduced to strengthen security checks and improve transparency in the visa process.
