Umuchime Ogume in Diaspora Elects New Executive Council

Umuchime Ogume in Diaspora has elected a new Executive Council, with Chief Dennis Uzu emerging as the President General following a keenly contested election held in Warri on February 28, 2026.

Chief Uzu secured a total of 27 votes to defeat Chief Christopher Onaedem, who garnered 14 votes, while Barr. Innocent Uzorga polled one vote in the PG race.

The election, which drew members from different chapters of the association, was described by participants as peaceful and transparent.

In a related development, Comr. Christopher Onaedem later emerged as Vice President after securing overwhelming support from members during subsequent voting.

Other members elected into key positions include Mr. Augustine Onyeazor as General Secretary and Lyndon OG as Assistant General Secretary.

Mrs. Gloria Amadi Enukegu was elected Financial Secretary, while Ms. Tessy Ejechi emerged as Assistant Financial Secretary.

Chief Chukwudi Odili was elected Treasurer, with Rafael elected as Assistant Treasurer, alongside other members who will serve in various capacities within the executive council.

In his acceptance speech, the new President General, Chief Dennis Uzu, expressed profound gratitude to members for the confidence reposed in him.

“I am deeply humbled by the trust you have placed in me. This mandate is not mine alone but belongs to every son and daughter of Umuchime Ogume in Diaspora,” he said.

Chief Uzu pledged to lead with transparency, inclusiveness, and accountability, assuring members that his administration would prioritize unity and sustainable development for the community.

“Our strength lies in our unity. We may have had different preferences during the election, but from today, we must move forward as one family,” he added.

He further stressed the need for collective responsibility, noting that the progress of the association depends on the active participation of all members.

Earlier in his valedictory speech, the outgoing President General, Chief Festus Enukegu, reflected on his tenure, recounting both the challenges and achievements recorded during his administration.

“Leadership is a journey of both trials and triumphs. We faced difficult moments, but together we also celebrated meaningful milestones,” Chief Enukegu stated.

He urged members to extend their full support to the new executive, stressing that continuity and cooperation are essential for the growth of the association.

“The boat must be kept sailing. I encourage everyone to rally behind the new leadership so that Umuchime Ogume in Diaspora can continue to flourish,” he said.

Enukegu also pledged his loyalty and support to the new executive council, assuring them of his willingness to offer guidance whenever necessary.

The election marks a new chapter for Umuchime Ogume in Diaspora, as members expressed optimism that the newly elected executives will consolidate on past gains and chart a progressive path for the association in the years ahead.
