15 Dead In Car Accident On Lokoja-Abuja Highway

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reports that a car accident that took place in Kogi resulted in the deaths of fifteen people and the serious injury of five others.

At about 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, a J-5 Boxer Bus and a Petroleum Tanker collided at Koton-Karfe on the Lokoja-Abuja highway.

The incident was confirmed by Kogi FRSC Sector Commander, Corps Commander Stephen Dawulung, who stated that the five injured were rushed to a hospital in Koton-Karfe for immediate medical attention.

Dawulung said that the bodies of the other victims have been taken to the mortuary at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Lokoja.

The sector commander said that the crash happened because the bus driver broke traffic rules by driving against traffic.

“Thank God, the tanker full of petroleum products didn’t catch fire, which could have been even worse and more worrying.

“The bad news is that the bus was carrying iron cramps with 17 people on board, and 15 of them died from being crushed and suffocated during the crash,” he said.
