Tragedy: 25 Killed In Rivers Illegal Refinery Explosion

At least 25 people have lost their lives in an explosion from an illegal crude oil tapping point located at Omoku, Ogba/Egebema/Ndoni Local Government Area, Rivers State.
The explosion took place recently; aftermath of the youths evaded a pipeline belonging to one of the multinational oil firms operating in the area to fetch oil with gallons and other items.
A source who gave his name as Patrick Ifeakanya explained that the 25 dead bodies were counted while others who sustained various degrees of injuries have taken to the hospital for proper care.
Ifeakanya said, “It was a horrified incident. Think of a situation where the nation would loss 25 people at this time. It all happened when some youths attacked a company pipeline to steal oil.
“You will see many of the injured people scattered all over the place in both government and private hospitals taking treatment, If you go to the General Hospital and other private clinics in Omoku.”
Another source who introduced herself as Mrs Anthony Okocha said the explosion was as a result of oil spillage from an old pipeline belonging to one of the oil companies operating in the locality.
According to her, “The leakage was from an obsolete pipeline belonging to one of the oil companies operating in the area.
