3rd Edition: Hamadjam Yaya wins 15km SDD Marathon

Marathoner Hamadjam Yaya from Cross River State has won the 3rd edition of the SDD Marathon in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Seventy five athletes from across the country participated in the 15 kilometres race which started from Akenfa and terminated at the Peace Park, Yenagoa.

Tosin Adedeji from Ogun State came second in the men’s category behind Yaya while Wadata Barau from Bauchi placed third.

In the women’s category, Lydia Akuacho from Plateau State came first, another athlete from Plateau, Patience John came second as Charity Agofure from Delta state returned 3rd.

The winner received the sum of N400,00.00, second position received N200,000.00 while the 3rd placed received N150,000.00.

Presenting the cash rewards to the winners, Governor Douye Diri, commended the initiator, Odonkumo Igbeta, for the idea and assured of its sustenance.

He also directed the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Daniel Igali, to include the race in the annual sports calendar of the state.

Former Speaker of the State House of Assembly and member representing Kolokuma/Opokuma constituency one, Hon. Tonye Isenah, was on the ground to support the organisers.
