The Anambra State Police Command has announced the commencement of a comprehensive training and reorientation programme for vigilante operatives across the state, as part of efforts to enhance community-based security operations.
As a first step, the Command began the documentation and medical screening of vigilante members on Tuesday, July 9, 2025.
The initiative is aimed at improving professionalism, ensuring accountability, and strengthening cooperation between the vigilante groups, the police, and other security agencies.
According to a statement by the state command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the training will focus on key areas including human rights, security protocols, community policing principles, ethics and professionalism, synergy with other security agencies, crime scene management, rule of law, and proper handling of exhibits.
Ikenga said the ongoing documentation and health checks are intended to streamline the operations of the vigilante groups, improve their organisational structure, and integrate them more effectively into the state’s overall security architecture.
The initiative reflects a joint commitment by the Anambra State Government and the Police Command to bolster grassroots security and promote a safer environment for all residents.
