Christmas celebration was yesterday disrupted following a tragic incident that led to the death of a child in Lagos Lagoon.
A 17 seater commercial bus filled with travelers veered off the road and fell into the lagoon in the Oworoshoki community, Lagos State.
Africa Investigative Magazine gathered that other passengers in the vehicle were rescued by members of the community and sympathizers.
The destination of the travelers could not be ascertained at press time, as the cause of the accident remained unknown.
The tragic incident attracted youths and community members who assisted the few fishermen around the area to rescue the occupants of the vehicle.
All the travelers were rescued except a three-month-old boy who was found dead in the water.
Few of the rescued passengers, who sustained injuries were taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
An eyewitness who preferred anonymity attributed the cause of the accident to the unconsciousness of the driver towards other road users.
He said, “I blame the driver for his inability to properly man the steering. He was not careful. This accident could have been avoided if the driver was conscious of other people plying the road.”
The South-west Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye confirmed the incident, saying all the occupants of the vehicle were rescued except a child.
He thanked the youths and community members who abandoned their parties and personal assignments to rescue the victims.
