Abia State University Dismisses Head of Department, Others (See Why)

The governing council of Abia State University, Uturu, has disengaged two of her staff over various crimes.

A senior lecturer and former acting Head of Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Michael Ukaegbu was discharged over offense on sex-for-grades.

Mr. Leonard Chukwu was also retrenched on account of breach of admission policies and obtaining of money under falsehood.

Africa Investigative Magazine gathered that the lecturers have long ago, been on the watch-list of the school management over their misconduct.

In a communiqué issued after the meeting of the Governing Council, the Board confirmed the disengagement of both staffs over their irregularities.

It was learned that a disciplinary committee was established to look into the allegations preferred against them.

The governing council under the chairmanship of the Pro-Chancellor, Adolphus Wabara approved the recommendations of the panel after both parties were found guilty of charges against them.

Recall that in May 2016, the Senate considered a bill that would slam a five-year jail term on lecturers that take pleasure at molesting students sexually.

The communique was, however, signed by Abia State University registrar, Mr. Acho Elendu.
