Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have recorded major breakthroughs in the fight against cultism and violent crime following intelligence-driven operations led by ASP Julius Robinson, which resulted in the arrest of suspected cultists and the recovery of firearms in the state.
The operations were carried out by the Command’s Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating within the state capital and other parts of Delta State.
In one of the operations conducted in the early hours of March 8, 2026, the CP-SAT team stormed a criminal hideout located at the Umunaji area near the “Stop Abortion” Junction in Asaba after receiving credible intelligence about suspected cultists and armed robbers operating in the area.
During the raid, the operatives arrested a 22-year-old suspect identified as Chukwudi Ekenna. A search of the hideout led to the recovery of one fabricated Beretta pistol, two locally made cut-to-size guns and ten live cartridges believed to have been used for cult-related and armed robbery activities in Asaba and its environs.
According to a statement by state command spokesman, SP Edafe Bright, the suspect is currently in custody and has provided useful information to investigators, which is assisting ongoing efforts to track down other members of the criminal network who are still at large.
In a separate operation linked to an ongoing investigation into a cult-related murder case, the CP-SAT team also arrested two suspected cult leaders in Ughelli town.
The arrests followed investigations into a case of conspiracy, cultism and murder connected to a cult-related killing that occurred on January 15, 2026, in the Iwhrekpokpo area of Ughelli.
Acting on credible intelligence, the police operatives led by ASP Julius Robinson stormed a hotel in the Ekuigbo area of Ughelli at about 11:30 a.m. on March 6, 2026, where the principal suspects were reportedly hiding.
The operation led to the arrest of 30-year-old Joshua Okpogona of Okwarabe Community, identified by the police as the current Ughelli leader of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity and the alleged mastermind behind the killing.
Also arrested was Raphael Omokerhe, aged 37, popularly known as “Black Python,” who was identified as the immediate past leader of the same cult group.
The statement added that investigations are ongoing while efforts are being intensified to apprehend other fleeing suspects connected to the crime.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Aina Adesola, reaffirmed the Command’s determination to sustain the ongoing crackdown on cultism, armed robbery and other violent crimes across the state.
He urged residents to continue supporting the police with credible and timely information, stressing that community cooperation remains vital to maintaining peace and security in Delta State.
