Beyond the Criticism: Emetulu’s Quiet Revolution in Education

Hon. Charles Emetulu, the member representing Ndokwa West Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, has long drawn criticism from sections of his constituency, often accused of political underperformance and underwhelming visibility.

However, a closer review of his achievements from 2020 to 2023 reveals a series of targeted developmental interventions, particularly in the education sector, that challenge the prevailing narrative and position him as a potential silent achiever whose impact may be more profound than previously acknowledged.

Within his two budget cycles, Hon. Emetulu focused extensively on the rehabilitation and equipping of schools across various communities in Ndokwa West. In his hometown of Abbi, the lawmaker undertook multiple projects that directly improved learning infrastructure.

He renovated a six-classroom block in Okkah Primary School, Inam Abbi, and established a modern ICT center at Abbi Girls Comprehensive High School, an investment that not only modernizes the school’s learning environment but also prepares students for digital literacy and competitiveness.

Additionally, he equipped a four-science laboratory block at Abbi Grammar School and rehabilitated other classroom blocks within the same school, alongside supplying essential furniture for students and teachers alike. These efforts indicate a strategic consolidation of educational infrastructure in his immediate constituency.

Beyond Abbi, Hon. Emetulu extended similar developmental strides to other communities within Ndokwa West. At Emu-Iyesere, he refurbished a four-classroom block along with a teachers’ office at Iyesere Primary School. In Utagbe-Ogbe, he facilitated the provision of science equipment to the Girls Secondary School, enhancing the learning conditions for female students pursuing science education.

His intervention in the Delta State Library, Kwale, is particularly noteworthy as it caters to a broader audience, promoting reading culture and research among youths and scholars within and outside the constituency.

Further projects spanned rural and semi-urban communities, reinforcing Emetulu’s intent to spread infrastructural development beyond urban centers. At Utue-Ogume, he renovated a classroom block in Isheni Primary School and equipped both the secondary school in Utue-Ogume and the Mixed Secondary School in Ogbagu Ogume.

In Chime-Uku Primary School, Umuchime Ogume, a three-classroom block was renovated, contributing to the educational upliftment of yet another underserved community. He also renovated a six-classroom block at Adoh Primary School in Ike-Onicha and constructed a new examination hall at Mixed Secondary School, Ibabu, Onicha-Ukwuani.

The lawmaker’s efforts were not confined to these areas alone. Schools in other towns and villages such as Ndemili, Utagba-Uno, Umusam Ogbe, Utagba-Ogbe, Obi-Ukpo, Onicha Ukwuani, Emu-Eboma, Emu, Ododougwa-Ogume, and Igbe-Ogume also benefited from infrastructure renovation, especially in the form of six-classroom blocks, which remain critical to decongesting classrooms and creating conducive learning environments.

Additional upgrades include work done at Adege Primary School in Ndemili, Olie Primary School in Ogbe-Ogume, and Emu Secondary School, all of which further illustrate the wide geographical spread of his constituency impact.

From the available data, it is evident that Hon. Charles Emetulu concentrated his representation on educational advancement; a sector widely recognized as foundational to long-term community development.

While critics might argue that other sectors deserve attention, the scale and consistency of Emetulu’s interventions in schools across diverse communities suggest a deliberate policy focus, particularly at a time when education infrastructure in many rural areas suffers chronic neglect.

In summary, between 2020 and 2023, Charles Emetulu quietly delivered a substantial number of educational infrastructure projects across Ndokwa West. Though not flamboyant or media-heavy in his approach, his work; ranging from ICT centers to laboratories, classroom renovations, and library upgrades reflects a practical and results-oriented mindset.

These achievements, though underreported, make a strong case for reassessing his performance and recognizing him as a silent achiever whose legacy may ultimately be measured by the long-term educational transformation of his constituency.
