Breaking: Russia Warns Of Retaliatory Measures As Finland Joins NATO

Finland has joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) military alliance on April 04, 2023, causing unrest for Russia with a historical realignment triggered by Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.

Following the handing over of documents, the Nordic nation legally entered the world’s biggest security alliance, doubling its border with Russia.

Meanwhile, Finland’s membership is a demonstration of overturn in Europe’s security terrain.

Finland leaders have indicated interest to join NATO but Russian President Vladimir Putin’s attack on Ukraine conveyed a terrible message to the country.

The move, however, is strategic and political blow to Russian Putin, who has criticized NaTO for poor growth. The alliance says it poses no threat to Moscow.

On its part, Russia warned that it would be forced to take “retaliatory measures” in addressing what it described as security threats produced by Finland’s membership.

It has also warned it will bolster forces near Finland if NATO sends any additional troops or equipment to what will be its 31st member country.

Neighboring country Sweden has been avoiding military pacts for more than 200 years, has also applied. But objections from NATO members Turkey and Hungary have delayed the process.

Finland has officially become NATO member after its foreign minister handed over documents completing its accession process to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The US State Department is the repository of NATO texts concerning membership.
