Cholera Outbreak: Zambia Receives Over 1.6m Doses Of Vaccines

Zambian government has received more than 1.6 million doses of cholera vaccines on January 15, as the country suffers one of its worst cholera outbreak.
Zambia’s Health Ministry, said the vaccines was secured by Zambia’s government in collaboration with the World Health Organization, WHO and UN’s children agency, UNICEF.
The vaccines will be formerly received by ministry after arriving the country on January 14.
“After this the ministry will finalize the preparatory processes to begin community vaccinations in selected hotspots in Lusaka province,” he said.
According to the health ministry, Lusaka is the worst-hit province and than 350 deaths and 9,000 infections have been recorded since the outbreak started October last year.
The vaccinations will target “people aged one year and above,” the ministry added.
The outbreak has spread to nine out of Zambia’s 10 provinces. The country’s biggest sports stadium, the National Heroes Stadium, has been prepared to treat cholera patients.
