Defence Headquarters Clears Air On UN Fighting Vehicles In Nigeria

The Defence Headquarters has assured Nigerians that there is no cause for alarm over presence of the United Nations (UN) fighting vehicles and equipment in Nigeria.
In a statement obtained by Africa Investigative Magazine on April 04, 2023, the Acting Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, said the fighting vehicles and equipment are being moved through the Warri port to the mission area in Southern Sudan to match up with UN troops who were inducted into the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei, UNISFA mission, Southern Sudan last month.

Recall that a video clip, recently, has surfaced on social media about some United Nations Peacekeeping fighting vehicles and equipment in Benin, Edo state.
The statement added that presently, Nigeria is contributing troops to various United Nations Peace keeping operations, including UNISFA, South Sudan which is headed by Nigerian Major General Benjamin Olufemi Sawyerr.
“The nation is not under any threat that will warrant the deployment of United Nations troops in our soil,” it said.
