Delta Police Intensify School Safety, Engage Heads of Schools on Protection Measures

In furtherance of its proactive policing strategy and commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Delta State Police Command has convened a strategic security meeting with heads of public and private schools across the state to strengthen school safety and protection.

The meeting, held on December 17, 2025, was convened on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, and was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

The engagement also had in attendance the Coordinator of the Safe School Initiative in Delta State, ACP George Efeizomor, alongside key stakeholders in the education sector.

A total of sixty-two (62) school heads and teachers participated in the interactive session, which focused on reinforcing security around schools in view of recent cases of student abductions recorded in some parts of the country.

Participants deliberated on critical safety measures, including fencing of school premises, installation of surveillance cameras, engagement of local vigilante groups, and enhanced collaboration between schools and security agencies.

Emerging concerns such as parental interference in school security arrangements and the misuse of mobile phones during school hours were also discussed.

Addressing the gathering, ACP George Efeizomor assured school administrators of sustained police support and emphasized the need for continuous communication with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders within their jurisdictions.

Emergency control room numbers were shared to ensure prompt reporting and swift police response in the event of security threats.

Reassuring stakeholders, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, through his representative DCP Adejobi, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to protect students, teachers, and school infrastructure.

He disclosed that adequate police deployments, intelligence-led patrols, and rapid response mechanisms have been activated across the state, particularly around schools, throughout the Ember Months.

The Delta State Police Command reiterated that the state remains relatively peaceful and urged school administrators, parents, and community stakeholders to continue to cooperate with security agencies to ensure a safe and secure learning environment across Delta State.
