Delta Police Smash Kidnap Ring, Suspect Killed, AK-47, Weapons Recovered

The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing operations against kidnapping, armed robbery, and cult-related crimes, resulting in the death of a suspected kidnapper, multiple arrests, and the recovery of several weapons.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended operatives for their gallantry and thanked community members for providing credible information that continues to enhance the Command’s crime-fighting efforts.

According to Edafe, on December 1, 2025, at about 2:30 a.m., operatives of the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU), working with community volunteers, acted on intelligence that suspected kidnappers were mobilising within the Obiaruku forest to launch an attack.

As the team approached the location, the suspects opened fire from multiple angles. The operatives returned fire, killing one of the suspects, while others escaped with injuries. Recovered from the scene were one AK-47 rifle, forty-two rounds of live ammunition, nine mobile phones, and charms.

He added that between 28 and 29 November 2025, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, arrested several suspects linked to armed robbery, theft, and cult activities in Ughelli, Oghara, and Sapele.

Acting on intelligence at the Ekuigbo axis, the team apprehended a suspect, Kelvin Oke, 42, and recovered a stolen tricycle from him. Follow-up operations led to the arrest of two more members of the syndicate: Victor Oyaye, 26, identified as the gang leader, and Monday Emakpo, 31. Another stolen tricycle and a locally made shotgun loaded with six live cartridges were recovered.

Continuing the operation in the Oghara–Sapele area on 29 November, operatives stormed the residence of Jeffery Saint, 28, in Ogharake.

He attempted to escape but was apprehended, and a search of his house led to the recovery of a locally fabricated Beretta pistol and fifteen rounds of ammunition.

In another incident on 29 November 2025, operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad, led by SP Danyaya Inusa, arrested a suspect during a stop-and-search operation near Northwest Filling Station by Mariam Babangida Junction along the Asaba–Benin Expressway.

The suspect, identified as Ezekiel Edeya, 28, attempted to flee and discard a red hand bag. The bag was recovered and found to contain a locally fabricated pistol, three live cartridges, an iron plier, and a screwdriver. He is currently in custody as investigations continue.

The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding the state and urged residents to continue supporting the police with actionable information.
