Delta PPRO, Edafe Bright Cautions Against Domestic Violence, Highlights Risk of Fatalities

Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, has issued a stark warning to victims of domestic abuse, urging them to prioritize their safety and well-being by escaping toxic relationships.

In a social media post on December 28, 2024, Edafe emphasized that marriage is meant to be enjoyed, not endured, and highlighted the devastating consequences of abusive marriages, including domestic violence and death.

Edafe stressed that physical abuse can often lead to death and that victims must recognize the warning signs and take immediate action to protect themselves.

This warning comes statistics reveal a alarming rise in domestic violence-related fatalities.

It was learnt that the notion of “he will change” is a dangerous myth, perpetuating a cycle of abuse that can have deadly consequences.

Edafe urged to create a safety plan, seek support from trusted friends, family, or counselors, prioritize self-care, and familiarize themselves with local laws and regulations regarding domestic violence.

However, if you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, don’t hesitate to seek help. Call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 (SAFE) or visit online resources such as the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) and the National Domestic Violence Hotline (NDVH).

Domestic violence can have severe and long-lasting effects on mental health, including depression, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance abuse, and problems with trust and intimacy.

It’s essential to recognize the signs of abuse and seek help immediately.
