Widows benefiting from the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme have lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the prompt disbursement of their October monthly stipends.
In a society where widowhood often comes with economic hardship in addition to emotional loss, the state government’s timely support has continued to provide relief and renewed hope for thousands of vulnerable women.
Speaking with journalists in Asaba, the State Coordinator of the Widows Welfare Scheme, Chief Isioma Okonta, praised Governor Oborevwori for what he described as “compassionate and exemplary leadership in all ramifications.”
Chief Okonta confirmed that the stipends for all 10,000 verified beneficiaries were paid directly into their bank accounts on Wednesday 19th, Thursday 20th, and Friday 21st of October, in strict compliance with the governor’s directive.
He commended the governor’s consistency in sustaining the monthly payments, noting that the initiative has continued to uplift disadvantaged Deltans, particularly widows who were thoroughly verified before being enrolled into the programme.
Okonta further disclosed that the Free Health Care Service Registration—another initiative approved by Governor Oborevwori—is nearing completion. The registration, he said, has been ongoing and is expected to provide additional medical support and security for the widows.
Expressing their gratitude, many beneficiaries offered prayers for the governor, asking God to strengthen him and grant him the grace to continue his good works for the people of Delta State and Nigeria.
