Evacuate Stranded South – South Students From Jos – NANS Executive

The Coordinator of National Association of Nigeria Students NANS Zone B South South, Comrade Victor Ogechukwu has called for the immediate evacuation of South – South students that are currently stranded in  Jos, Plateau State.

He made the call during an emergency meeting of NANS in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

Comrade Ogechukwu said the distress call became necessary because of the safety of the students currently trapped in Jos, stressing that NANS Zone B South – South would not rest until the stranded students are evacuated.

He said: “The safety  of our students is non- negotiable and on this note we call on the plateau state government to provide immediate security cover and logistical passage for students attempting to exit the state.”

Comrade Ogechukwu who spoke on behalf of NANS Zone B South South executive equally called on all state governments of the South – South zone, comprising,  Edo,  Delta,  Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa and Cross River to immediately mobilize and deploy emergency evacuation logistics (secured burses and security escorts) to Jos to bring back South -South Students safely back home.

“The leadership of NANS South _South in solidarity with all South -South Students representative bodies makes it clear that the well-being of our students is our highest priority,” he said.

The students bodies according to him issued a 48 hours notice to the respective state governments to initiate the evacuation process for the safety of the students.

NANS Zone B South South executive reiterated that any relevant government authorities that failed to attend to the request within the stipulated 48 hours that all South -South Students groups would be forced to engage the governments decisively as NANS would not sit idly while their students brothers and sisters are left as “sitting ducks” in a volatile environment.

Government, according to NANS, is a social contract  and the primary responsibility of the contract is the protection of lives, adding that NANS expects an immediate response to prevent an avoidable tragedy.
