Ilaro Fed Poly Students Cry For Help Over Incessant Raping, Robbing

Students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State, have cried out for help over incessant rapping and robbing incidents within and outside the campus.

The students also sought the intervention of the government to end the attacks on the students.

One of the students (name withheld) who spoke with our correspondent on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, lamented that she had been raped and robbed repeatedly in the course to fulfill academic obligations.

Another student who gave his name as Orima Chiemela said he had been robbed of his valuables at gunpoint, appealing to the government to come to their aid.

“It has become a new normal in the institution. I have been robbed countless times. Yesterday, two men with guns broke into my house and collected my phones, laptop, and the little money on me.

“Female students were rapped, and at the same time, robbed. In most cases, our foodstuffs were collected at gunpoints. We are afraid to sleep in their homes now,” he said.

Africa Investigative Magazine learned that the students have planned to protest against the menace, but were dispersed by the institution management, who denied not knowing about the attacks on the students.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Student matters, Comrade Azeez Adeyemi confirmed the incident and said effects are made to restore normalcy in the environment.

Azeez stated that they would have a meeting with security chiefs and stakeholders to draw out a lasting solution.

“We have set every machinery in motion to put an end to the ugly situation,” he said.
