Illegal Gathering, Carrying Of Playcards In The Name Of Peaceful Protest Not Allowed In Delta – CP
Gathering or carrying of playcards by any group of people in the name of protest not allowed on Saturday, Delta State police commissioner has said.
Delta State Police Command on Friday said it would not allow any miscreant to distort already existing peace in the state under the guise of peaceful protest.
The command said on no account should any group be seen, gathering or carrying placards in the name of a protest, adding that such act is not allowed in the state.
The state commissioner of police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali in a statement vowed to apprehend and deal with anyone who would go against this order.
The commissioner who noted that the command is aware of the June 12, 2021 planned protest by some agitators alleged that the protest was staged by criminal minded people to induce havoc in the state.
It was verified that Nigerians had planned to stage a nationwide protest on June 12, 2021 against the federal government over bad governance.
The conveners of the protest had accused the Federal Government of funding terrorism and bantry, disregard for Rule of Law and poor funding of the health sector.
Others according to posters trending on social media are police brutality, bad roads, N13.5million senators’ salary, Nigeria’s debt that has risen to over N30trillion among others.
Meanwhile, the commissioner urged the members of the public to partner with the police to see that those who are planting the seed of disunity in the state are arrested and brought to book.
The statement reads: “The Delta state police command is aware of the planned protest by some agitated members of the public on 12th of June 2021, and is also aware that this protest is being staged by criminally minded individuals, hiding under the guise of peaceful protest thereby causing havoc in the state. The command under the watch of CP Ari Muhammed Ali, FCIA, psc+ will not allow any miscreant to distort the already existing peace in the state.
Members of the public particularly residents of Delta state are to be aware that on no account should any group be seen, gathering or carrying placard in the name of protest, as such will not be allowed in the state. Officers and men of the command have been placed on red alert and have been ordered to arrest and deal decisively with any criminally minded elements who wish to go against this order.
The command is more than ever willing to go after any miscreant who might be found wanting. The Commissioner of police is urging members of the public to partner with the police to see that those who try to bring disunity in the state and our dear nation be arrested and brought to book. Also, it is pertinent to state that undercover police detectives have been deployed across the state for the purpose of arresting any person or persons staging any form of protest. The command is committed to maintain and sustain the peace the state is currently enjoying.”
