Israeli PM Netanyahu Hospitalised Ahead Of Key Vote

Afimag.com –

Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has suffered a setback ahead of key vote after undergoing an emergency surgery on the night of July 22, 2023.

Doctors at Sheba Medical Centre said the procedure went well and he is not in a life-threatening condition.

Mr Netanyahu’s hospitalisation comes ahead of a key vote in parliament on a contentious overhaul of the judiciary.

In a video address ahead of the overnight surgery, Mr Netanyahu said he was feeling “excellent” but listening to his doctors.

Earlier, it was said that there had been questions calling for answers over his health after he was admitted to hospital last week supposedly suffering from dehydration.

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets across Israel on Saturday night, while thousands marched into Jerusalem and camped out near the Knesset, or parliament, ahead of a vote expected Monday that would approve a key portion of the overhaul.

Further ratcheting up the pressure on the Israeli leader, over 100 retired security chiefs came out in favor of the growing ranks of military reservists who say they will stop reporting for duty if the plan is passed.

Netanyahu and his far-right allies announced the overhaul plan in January, days after taking office. They claim the plan is needed to curb what they say are the excessive powers of unelected judges.
