LP To Refund N25m To Family Of Late Anumudu

Labour Party (LP), under the leadership of Julius Abure has announced the refund of N25 million to the family of a deceased governorship aspirant in Imo State, Humphrey Anumudu.

Chief Abure who made the disclosure during a chat with newsmen in Abuja recently, said the money was paid by Anumudu as a nomination fee.

The chairman told the newly elected party members that he had decided to return the nomination fee to the deceased’s family to show empathy and compassion.

“You will recall that one of our aspirants in Imo State lost his life. I am pleased to inform the public and LP members and his immediate family that the party will refund the nomination fee of N25 million that he spent.”

Recall that Mr Anumudu purchased the party’s form to contest the primary ahead of the State governorship election in November but had died last week.

Reacting to the development, the Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi thanked the party leadership for their kind gesture towards family of late Chief Anumudu.

In his post on Twitter handle on March 29, 2023, Mr Obi further thanked the party for agreeing to refund N10 million to each governorship aspirant who paid N25 million for the nomination form.

“I applaud the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barr. Julius Abure, and the NWC for also agreeing to refund the cost of the form to the family of a deceased aspirant Chief Humphrey Anumudu from Imo State; and also agreeing to refund N10m to each of those that had paid.

“These gestures, reflect the Labour Party’s responsiveness to the yearnings of Nigerians. -PO,” he said.
