Musk’s Investments in Italy Not a Threat, Says PM Meloni

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has alleviated concerns about Elon Musk’s investments in Italy, saying that it is not a threat.

Meloni, in her post on social media, stated that her government has carefully evaluated each investment to ensure it aligns with the nation’s interests.

“I work to have major investments in Italy and evaluate the usefulness of each investment through the prism of our national interest,” Meloni said.

Meloni’s relationship with Musk has garnered significant attention in Italy, particularly after Musk presented her with an award at a New York ceremony.

Musk has been vocal about various issues in Italy, including the need to address the declining birthrate and his accusations against Telecom Italia SpA for impeding Starlink Inc.’s high-speed internet rollout.

The two leaders have discussed potential collaborations in cutting-edge fields like space exploration and artificial intelligence. Italy’s new regulatory framework now permits foreign space companies to operate within its borders, paving the way for Musk’s ventures.

While Meloni and Musk seem to share mutual admiration, not all European leaders are enthusiastic about Musk’s influence.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his deputy, Robert Habeck, criticized Musk’s support for a far-right party in a recent election.
